Should you pay the Daikin premium or does Midea Xtreme Save deliver the same performance for less? We compare efficiency, noise, heating, smart features, and price — with our honest recommendation.

When Essex homeowners ask us to compare brands, the Midea Xtreme Save versus Daikin Perfera question comes up regularly. Both are high-efficiency single split systems — but there is a meaningful price difference. Is it justified? Here is our honest assessment based on hundreds of installations across Essex.

Brand Background

Daikin is the premium Japanese choice — widely regarded as the industry benchmark for efficiency and reliability. Their Perfera series is among the best residential single split systems available in the UK.

Midea is the world's largest AC manufacturer by volume. Their Xtreme Save series targets the premium mid-market with specifications that rival Japanese brands at a noticeably more accessible price.

Energy Efficiency: Effectively Equal

Both units achieve A+++ ratings for cooling and heating in the 2.5kW–3.5kW range.

Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW: SEER 8.5 / SCOP 5.1 Daikin Perfera 3.5kW: SEER 8.74 / SCOP 5.1

The Daikin's SEER is marginally higher — about 3% better in seasonal cooling efficiency. In real terms, for a bedroom unit running on summer evenings in Essex, the annual difference would be a few pounds per year. Not nothing, but not significant.

For heating efficiency, the SCOP is identical at 5.1.

Verdict: Effectively equal. The Daikin has a negligible edge in cooling efficiency that will not be noticeable in day-to-day use.

Noise Level: Very Close

Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW indoor: 19 dB(A) minimum Daikin Perfera 3.5kW indoor: 19 dB(A) minimum

Both units operate at 19 dB(A) on their lowest fan speed — the gold standard for bedroom air conditioning. In practice, both are essentially silent when sleeping.

The Daikin outdoor unit is marginally quieter (43 dB(A) versus 46 dB(A)) — relevant if your outdoor unit is close to a bedroom window or neighbour's fence.

Verdict: Indoor noise is equal. Outdoor noise has a slight Daikin advantage.

Cold Climate Heating Performance

Midea Xtreme Save: Rated to -15°C outdoor ambient Daikin Perfera: Rated to -20°C outdoor ambient

Both are well beyond anything Essex will experience. The Daikin's colder limit is relevant in Scandinavia — not in Chelmsford, Colchester, or Basildon.

Verdict: Both more than sufficient for the UK climate and Essex winters.

Smart Features and App Control

Midea Xtreme Save: Built-in Wi-Fi, Midea Air app, Alexa and Google Home compatible. Energy monitoring included as standard.

Daikin Perfera: Wi-Fi via optional BRP069C4x adapter (approximately £80 extra). Daikin Online Controller app. Alexa and Google Home compatible.

This is a genuine Midea advantage — Wi-Fi is included as standard, not an add-on.

Verdict: Midea wins on smart features and value.

Build Quality and Reliability

Both systems use R32 refrigerant and high-quality inverter-driven compressors. Both should last 15–20 years with annual servicing.

Daikin has a longer track record in the UK premium market and an extensive UK engineer network. Midea's reliability record, in our experience installing both brands across Essex, has been excellent — we have seen very few call-backs on Midea systems.

Verdict: Both excellent. Daikin has a longer UK track record; Midea's reliability has been very strong in our direct experience.

Price Comparison (Fully Installed in Essex)

Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW, fully installed: £1,100–£1,450 Daikin Perfera 3.5kW, fully installed (including Wi-Fi adapter): £1,500–£1,900

The price difference is typically £300–£500 for effectively equivalent performance.

Our Honest Recommendation

For most Essex homeowners — whether installing in a bedroom, living room, or home office — the Midea Xtreme Save is our recommendation. You get A+++ efficiency, 19 dB(A) quiet operation, built-in Wi-Fi, and cold-climate heating, with savings of £300–£500 compared to an equivalent Daikin.

If budget is no object and you have a specific preference for the Daikin brand name or its slightly quieter outdoor unit, the Perfera is a superb system and we are happy to install it. But in honest performance terms, the Midea Xtreme Save gives you 95% of the Daikin at 75–80% of the price.

Both come with full 5-year warranty when installed by Future Smart Electrical as registered installers.
